Area Ys and community Recreation Departments frequently offer teen space and teen nights featuring sports, games, music or other recreation and special events. Contact your Y or Rec Department for information.

Black Achievers Program
Westfield "Y," 220 Clark St., Westfield, 908-233-2700. African-American men and women are nominated by their employers to serve as mentors and role models to local teens. Industry awareness tours, youth workshops, enrichment activities. Open to grades 7-12.

Greater Morristown YMCA Circuit Room
79 Horsehill Rd., Cedar Knolls, 973-267-0704. Strength and agility training, free weights, treadmills, Wii plus six TVs in our circuit room for ages 12+. Ages 10-12 are welcome with an adult.

Hillsborough Youth Commission & Hillsborough YMCA Teen Programs
Hillsborough YMCA, 591 Amwell Rd., Neshanic, 908-369-0490. Games, swimming, basketball, volleyball ­tournaments, snacks for high school and middle school students on separate Sat. evenings. Registration in June for township residents.

Leaders Club
Offers teens ages 12-18 an opportunity to develop leadership skills through participation in meetings, social events and community service projects. Membership not required.

Model United Nations
High school teens act as representatives from international countries and prepare for annual debate in Hershey, PA, with over 600 other students. Program runs Sept.-Jan.

Summit Area YMCA Teen Recreation

Activities include afterschool teen center for grades 7-12, Model United Nations, Youth and Government, Spectrum support groups, ski, snowboard and tube trips, indoor rock wall/classes, summer trip, C.I.T. camps, fitness and wellness membership, and nutrition counseling.

Ultimate Frisbee
Westfield Area Y, 220 Clark St., 422 E. Broad St., Westfield, 908-233-2700. Ultimate, non-contact team sport and growing fast in the U.S. Meet new friends, learn the skills of Ultimate Frisbee and compete locally. Class is offered on Mondays after school.
